Growing

Gloria cabbage is sown in the second half of spring. It is advisable that the soil consists of sod soil and compost or humus. You can also add peat, because the main property of the substrate is air permeability and the presence of nutrients. Sow the seeds to a depth of 1 cm and cover with glass or plastic wrap. A week after sowing, the first shoots appear.

Young plants are kept at 14–18 ° C during the day and 6–10 ° C at night. The length of daylight hours should be at least 12 hours. They also monitor the sufficiency of moisture. Seedlings dive when they grow 2 true leaves.

plant dense

Half a month before planting in open ground, cabbage is hardened. For this, it should be taken out into fresh air, each time increasing its residence time.

Young plants are planted in May after the 15th and until the end of the month. By this time, 5 to 7 leaves will already grow on the seedlings of this vegetable, and the seedling itself will reach 20 cm.The planting pits should be placed at a distance of 50 cm in rows, and between them - 60 cm. Before planting, fertilizer is placed in them, consisting of from peat, sand, ash and compost. After instilling the root system of Gloria cabbage, the soil is watered abundantly.

small size

Caring for a vegetable consists in timely watering and feeding, loosening the soil, getting rid of weeds, and hilling. Fertilization needs to be considered in more detail. During the growing season, the soil under the cabbage is enriched 3-4 times.

Begin to make top dressing, consisting of urea, potassium salts and superphosphate. Then, at the end of the first summer month, manure (horse or cow) is applied. Fertilizer is diluted in the amount of 10 kg in 50 liters of water. Then they give the same amount of liquid there. The third time is watered with the same composition, only a little superphosphate is added. Each time after fertilizing the plants, you need to water them with plain water at the end.

Care features

When seedlings appear, immediately remove the glass to avoid stretching. The temperature regime should be within 12-14 °C heat. Seedlings grow in containers for 40 to 50 days, and then it is transplanted.

Since the heads of the Gloria variety grow large, the gap between the seedlings should be from 50 cm. This distance allows the cabbage to develop well, take the optimal amount of food from the soil, and receive abundant sunlight. This vegetable crop ripens, 80 days after planting in a permanent place.

Advantages and disadvantages

Gloria hybrid cabbage seeds are expensive, but this is offset by the good characteristics of this vegetable crop:

  • great taste;
  • beautiful presentation;
  • not prone to cracking;
  • able to give a good harvest;
  • high resistance to disease;
  • loyal to temperature extremes;
  • the possibility of mechanical assembly;
  • adapted to different climates;
  • high percentage of product yield;
  • stored for a long time.

marketable condition

And another great advantage of this cabbage is the ability to grow it in two terms. The first crop is to sell a fresh vegetable profitably, the second is put into storage.

The disadvantage is the high demand for lighting plants. They must be planted in a sunny area, since the amount of light affects the yield. And of course, the culture needs care: optimal watering, weeding from weeds, loosening.

Pests and diseases

Yes, Gloria cabbage is resistant to diseases such as fusarium wilting, but in cool and humid climates, it is susceptible to fungal infections such as powdery mildew and gray rot.

For prophylactic purposes for the care of cabbage, seedlings and garden tools are disinfected. After planting in open ground, the plants are treated with Fitosporin until it is time to set the head of cabbage.

disinfection of seedlings

Pests, unfortunately, love Gloria cabbage. These are aphids, caterpillars, May beetle and scoops, but if you plant marigolds, any kind of mint, cilantro or rosemary next to a vegetable garden, then spicy plants will scare away insects.

The next way to protect cabbage beds is to treat the culture with infusion of onion husks or tomato tops.

Harvesting and storage

Gloria cabbage is harvested before the onset of night temperatures below zero. If the hybrid is harvested on time, then it can be stored for up to 5 months. The second prerequisite for a long stay of cabbage in a satisfactory condition is stable temperature readings. It is good when the cellar does not freeze and does not overheat.

You also need to avoid high humidity, as it promotes decay processes.

Since cabbage is a plant with a two-year development cycle, if stored improperly, it can release shoots and bloom.

Reviews of gardeners

Until now, all the gardeners who grew Gloria cabbage in their summer cottages and gardens spoke well of it. Seedlings, with proper care, easily transform into beautiful, even heads of cabbage.

Nadezhda, Saratov:

“We have been planting Gloria cabbage for about 5 years for ourselves and for sale. People buy it willingly, as it has thin leaves and a neat shape. Basically, women take cabbage for pickling. Our family also loves to eat preserves and fresh salads from it in winter. Gloria stays with us until March without any problems. "

Tatiana, Novosibirsk:

“Gloria is a delicious, juicy cabbage that I really like. The variety is good for both fresh consumption and salting. The only drawback, I think, is the cost of seeds, but it's worth the money. "

    Cabbage ripens quite quickly, but the fruit is large. The leaves are strong and juicy, the stump is very small. I think the variety is pretty good, I didn't notice any special flaws, I recommend it.
