Characteristics and description of the Scythian tomato variety

How to choose a tomato variety and not be mistaken? Tomato Skif F1 is suitable for cultivation both in the northern and southern regions of the country. It is an excellent variety with a stable yield.

Description of the Skif variety

First of all, it should be noted that the Skif tomato belongs to the first generation hybrids. It was bred by Dutch breeders as a hybrid intended for outdoor cultivation and greenhouse conditions. Also, the Skif F1 tomato variety belongs to hybrids intended for cultivation in the southern regions in the open field. Tomatoes are tall, interdeterminate. The maximum barrel height can be 1.7 meters.

The first inflorescence of a plant is laid over 5 full leaves. Subsequent - with an interval of 1-2 leaves. To obtain the maximum yield, it is recommended to form the trunk into 1 or 2 stems. Adult shrubs require trellis garters, as well as the removal of side shoots. Without these actions, yields can be poor.

The tomato hybrid Skif F1 refers to varieties with an early ripening of fruits. The first crop from the beds can be harvested as early as 90-103 days after the sprouts appear. One of the main advantages for which those gardeners who planted a hybrid in their area choose it is its high immunity to tomato diseases such as fusarium wilting of the bush, root nematodes and verticillosis. Also, the bushes rarely get sick with the tobacco mosaic virus.

Scythians in the garden

Skif F1 tomatoes have a good yield. From one bush, you can collect about 6 kg of vegetables. When grown per square meter 9 bushes, the yield will be from 40 kg of ripe vegetables.

Characteristics of tomato fruits Skif F1

The most important thing to learn before purchasing seeds for any variety of nightshade crops is the fruit description.

a bunch of tomatoes

Characteristics of tomatoes:

  • Oval fruits (vegetables on the last clusters may have a small sharp "nose");
  • The tomatoes themselves are dense, the skin and pulp are red. Unripe fruits are light green;
  • The mass of one mature vegetable can be from 155 to 250 grams;
  • The taste of tomatoes is sweet, juicy, fleshy pulp;
  • Intended for fresh consumption. Also great for pickling. Due to the dense skin, the fruits do not crack and retain their appearance.
  • The vegetables can be transported well and are good for sale.

Description of the advantages and disadvantages

Reviews from those farmers who grew the hybrid in their summer cottage are mostly positive.

Advantages:

  • Plants tolerate hot, dry weather well;
  • Stable tomato harvest throughout the entire fruiting period:
  • High palatability of fruits;
  • Universal use (especially suitable for whole canning);
  • Not susceptible to the development of most diseases of nightshade crops;
  • The vegetables have an attractive presentation and are suitable for commercial purposes.

Tomato has no significant drawbacks. The only disadvantage of cultivating this variety is the need to tie the trunks and remove the side shoots.

How to grow seedlings correctly

Correctly growing and planting seedlings is the most important thing to remember when growing not only nightshade crops, but also any other vegetables and fruits.

I grew seedlings at home as follows:

  1. After purchase, the seeds can be checked for quality. To do this, you need to prepare a saline solution and place the planting material in it. You can plant only those seeds that have fallen to the bottom.
  2. The soil for planting can be prepared in advance, or you can buy a ready-made mixture for vegetables in the store.
  3. You can sow seeds in mid-March.
  4. Pour small pebbles or pebbles at the bottom of the box, then pour soil and water.
  5. Make grooves 2 cm deep and plant seeds. Cover them with cling film and put in a dark place.
  6. After the sprouts appear, the film is removed, and the containers are placed on the south or east windows.
  7. After the appearance of full-fledged leaves, the seedlings are planted in separate pots. For this purpose, you can use ordinary plastic or peat cups. In peat cups, seedlings can be planted in open ground.

Depending on what spring was like, they choose the time of planting seedlings in a permanent place. Usually, this is the end of May - beginning of June.

You can prepare the soil for planting tomatoes in the fall, immediately after the entire crop has been harvested. Many insects hide in the soil for the winter, so it needs to be dug up and watered with a solution of potassium permanganate. In the spring, the earth is dug up again and fertilized. Where tomatoes will grow in the future, you can plant greens or onions.

table and scales

I planted seedlings in a permanent place as follows:

  1. Clean the soil of weeds, dig up and water with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  2. Then mix it with manure or humus. Make holes with a diameter of 30. The distance between the holes should be at least 50 cm.
  3. To plant seedlings (it is possible to deeply deepen the stalk of tomatoes only if they “sat” at home for a long time and “stretched out” too much).
  4. Tamp the soil around the stem and pour abundantly with warm water.
  5. At night, the beds can be covered with warm material.

When there will be no frosts at night, and the bushes get stronger in a new place, you can stop covering them.
