Description of the Ballada tomato variety and its characteristics

Determinant plants are increasingly attracting gardeners. Tomato Ballada pleases with a combination of high taste, a large number of fruits with a compact bush.

What it is?

The authors created a berry for open ground. If necessary, it can be planted in unheated plastic, film greenhouses. Description of the plant:

  • average ripening period (from germination to the first harvest 120 days);
  • the color of the berry is dark red;
  • the fruit is round, slightly flattened;
  • the tomato grows to 180 g.

In the southern regions, it manages to ripen before the onset of a stable cold snap. In the Middle Lane, the tomato needs planting in closed ground or under temporary shelters.

Ballad Tomatoes

Distinctive features of the variety are excellent transportability, sufficient keeping quality of ripe fruits.

What attracts gardeners

Low-growing tomatoes traditionally yield fewer crops than tall ones. This scares off gardeners. But Ballad is a different matter. The bush takes up little space. There are many large tomatoes on it.

In the description, the authors note:

  • absence of a green spot in the region of the stalk;
  • rough skin;
  • juicy pulp;
  • bright aroma;
  • sweet and sour taste;
  • height <60 cm;
  • high productivity of the variety (total yield 9 kg / m²).

The first brush is tied over the 6th leaf. Has about 5 fruits. The plant is slightly overgrown with leaves. No shaping, no garter required.

Tomato sprouts

When growing a Ballad tomato in the open field, the soil should be mulched with rotted sawdust, mowed and dried grass. The berries will stay clean and will not rot.

In the greenhouse, tomatoes are stretched. The stems lie on the ground. When planting tomatoes, it is recommended to cover the bed with a dark non-woven material (spunbond).

How to care

Determinant varieties require routine maintenance:

  • sowing seedlings from 15 to 20 March;
  • germination in warmth (without access to light);
  • after emergence, place on a cool windowsill (temperature 18 ⁰C);
  • additional supplementary lighting with an agrolamp;
  • pick in phase 2 of these sheets;
  • regular feeding with mineral complexes for seedlings;
  • landing on a permanent place in May (after the last frost);
  • placement scheme: 40 cm x 50 cm (9 bushes / m²);
  • watering in the morning, 3-5 l / plant;
  • spraying with ovary formation stimulants;
  • nitrogen application before flowering;
  • feeding with mineral complexes until the milk ripeness of tomatoes;
  • stopping the addition of additives one month before harvest;
  • regular weeding, loosening of tomato.

Ripe tomatoes

The leafy plates of low-growing tomatoes are located near the ground. When watering, water droplets wet them. There is a risk of fungal diseases. Drip irrigation will help to save the harvest. Moisture is supplied strictly to the root of each plant in the required amount.

The creators of the variety took care of resistance to the main types of diseases: TMV, apical rot. Amicable return of fruits with competent agricultural technology allows you to avoid the attack of phytophthora. Berries with a rich tomato flavor are good fresh. Not a rough skin, juicy pulp allows you to make delicious canned food: salads, ketchups, pastas.

The tomato has high consumer characteristics. Transportability, keeping quality allow to deliver fruits to the place of sale. The crop is quickly sold out on the market. The ballad is recommended for cultivation in summer cottages and on farms.
